This article might be the one you will want to save for the tougher times in life, for when you feel like nothing is working in your favor, you don’t feel at your best and feel stressed and overwhelmed most times.
I know these feelings myself, and I find myself in this circle of “not feeling very well”, from time to time. After living with myself for the past 26 years, I finally came to find and understand why I feel like I have lost touch with myself – again – and fortunately, how to get it back and come back to life, being able to live to my fullest potential.
3 easy steps to get to a better place
I strongly believe that these things can work for you too. You can apply them all at once, or switch them around, but of course, the best the fastest result, and thus “come back” to the “awesome-feeling-you”, will be by combining all of them.
They are very simple and easy, and some of them you maybe do anyway, so why not put some structure and purpose into them, to make them work in your favor?
Exercise
This one probably comes as no surprise – sport is generally and globally known to enhance our mood, to provide us with endorphins, which give us the amazing feeling of greatness and joy. Every time I find myself not feeling very good about myself – physically or even mentally, it is usually due to a lack of sports activities in my life.
I have been trying different types of sports activities, and what works the best for me, is switching between running and yoga/pilates/workouts with my own weight combo. This helps me get my “daily dose of endorphins” and makes my days better. It also gives me the feeling of satisfaction, that I did something for my body and my mind.
Meditation
This is a big one, and might even deserve the first place (that is also why I decided to not put numbers on them). Meditation is the tool that helped me countless times to get over a bad period in life, saved my relationships, and got me on the right track. The best time for me to meditate is right after a workout when you are still filled with endorphins and good feelings. It also helps you with taking the heart rate down in a peaceful way, and relax and unwind.
I sit usually on two small pillows, either on a couch or on a mat, if I sit on the floor, light a candle, and play a meditation music playlist on Spotify or YouTube. Then I sit in a relaxed position, cross-legged, and close my eyes. I have been trying different types of meditation, but one of my favorites, especially if there is something in my life that I would like to feel more of, or accomplish something specific, is “mantra meditation”.
In this type of meditation, I say out loud phrases, that I would like to manifest or keep manifesting in my life. The most used ones for me are: “I am healthy”, “I am happy”, “I am confident”, “I always attract amazing things into my life”, “I have great relationships with people”, etc. There is no limit to what you can say. I say them out loud because it makes it more real for me if I hear my voice say them.
A cold shower in the morning
This one is a tough one! I couldn’t imagine doing this one myself just two years ago. I do not even remember how I got into this one, but I think it started with all the hype about cold bathing a few years ago, and I tried it a few times in a lake near my hometown, during winter. It was really “ass-kicking” and it also gave me an immediate boost in mood and energy, at least right after I got out of the freezing water.
Now I can hardly imagine a morning without my cold shower, or at least a morning when I go to work or somewhere early and want to have that energy boost. It also has plenty of other benefits for our bodies, but I will talk about that in another article.
Conclusion
So, these are my top three. They are all easy to incorporate into our lives and the benefits that they bring are so powerful and life-changing, that you will not want to go back to “not doing them”, once you get used to them.
Of course, there are many other ways to improve our lives, which I will write about in other articles, but these are the most cathartic, easy, and healthy fixes when I feel like I reached my low points in life.
It is important to remember, that we are all humans and not machines and we cannot always be on top of our game. Things happen in our lives sometimes, that we cannot control, and bad times come and go, just as the good times do. That is life and that is the beauty of it.
Thank you for reading this article and I hope and believe with my whole soul, that it will help you when you need it the most. There are no coincidences in life, and maybe, just maybe you found this piece just at the right time.
